dumpling


Home made banana cake... from Cyan

and Dumplings from neighbours!





* one mix minced pork meat with finelly chopped spring onion, celery and hei mu er, another adds finely chopped chinese cabbage and spring onions. Season with hua jiao fen, black soya bean sauce, light saya bean sauce,ginger,salt,egg and some hua diao jiu i guess. I think the difficult one is how to make the flour layers and the technique of folding. If you get it wrong, the fillings will leak!


The art of dumpling making is mysterious and exciting to me. It encompasses the northern China dietary culture and the spirit of the region. Dont you think dumplings are gorgeous? Mastering them makes me feel great. Haha!!

Northern and southern China food habits are varied. Northern China makes dumplings during eve of CNY and they consume more noodles. On the other hand, Southern China eats more rice and takes Steamboat during CNY, tats where sichuan spicy steamboat is so famous.

Those China gals said: It feels like the eve of CNY when everyone is busy preparing the dumpling ingredients. Oh yes, it was like 5 or 6 of them in the kitchen, keep chopping and chopping while playing music...Merry and yet bring excessive noises.

Hope i have a chance to learn from them (those China gals) before I leave here!!
